Mike Vierow

Mike has spent his career working at the intersection of strategy and transformation. He has held leadership roles in the UK Royal Navy, J.P. Morgan, McKinsey & Company, and Virgin Australia Group.

Mike grew up in Australia and started his working life as a Commissioned Officer in the UK Royal Navy. He attended the world’s oldest leadership school, Britannia Royal Naval College, and was awarded the Herbert Lott prize for graduating as the top student at the Maritime Warfare School. His military service was global and spanned missions to provide humanitarian aid, enforce UN Security Council resolutions, and included combat experience.

Following his military service, Mike completed technical training in project and program delivery and was certified as a Practising Project Director. He has completed his Master of Business Administration at the University of New South Wales and AICD’s Company Director Course. After several program delivery roles, he was fortunate to lead the Asia-Pacific Project Management Office (PMO) at J.P. Morgan.

Joining McKinsey & Company as a seasoned transformation specialist, Mike spent eight years supporting the C-suite leaders of large complex organisations. He supported organisations through their trickiest times, working in highly complex, urgent, and ambiguous situations. His experience includes growth, productivity, cost, and digital transformations, backed by expertise in re-organisation, capability building, and ways of working.

Beyond transformation, Mike was certified as a McKinsey facilitator, executive coach, and pioneered McKinsey’s published research on psychological safety. Mike founded McKinsey’s Australia & New Zealand executive education practice. In this capacity he was the Dean of the Executive Leadership Program, Young Leaders Forum, and Social Sector Mission Delivery programs. These programs continue today and have supported the development of thousands of leaders across the community.

Since leaving McKinsey, Mike has held several transformation leadership roles, including value delivery roles for portfolio companies, and continues to work at the intersection of strategy and transformation.
